Biography

• Scott was founder and first president of the Woman’s Monday Club
• Her nickname “The Admiral of the Valley” was given to her by Texas’ first General Federation of Women’s Clubs President Anna J. Hardwicke (Mrs. Percy V.) Pennybacker
• Scott served as Fifth District President for the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs
• Scott served as TFWC’s Fifth District’s Chair of it Ethics Department
• Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs named Scott as one of the founders of the TFWC Headquarters in Austin and as a life member of the TFWC Board of Directors
• Scott, in her then home on 223 South Broadway, served as hostess to William Jennings Bryan when he traveled to Corpus Christi
• Scott served as Chair of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Parks and School Grounds Committee

 While Scott was in office as President of the Woman’s Monday Club:

• Club built the Ladies Pavilion (which sat on Bay Shore as an entertainment arena for the City of Corpus Christi)
• Club purchased two lots and donated them to the city in 1909 to expand Artesian Park
• Club established a “Story Hour” for Corpus Christi children
• Club raised money toward the purchased of a Baby Grand Piano for Corpus Christi High School
• Club raised money towards the purchase of City of Corpus Christi’s first “chemical” fire truck
• Club studies included: Shakespeare, Browning, Honolulu, Hawaii, The Philippines and other topics falling under the subjects of American History, Southern Literature, Colonial Literature and German Literature.
