MRS.  FRANK  A.  TOMPKINS

            Mrs. Frank A. Tompkins became President of the Monday Club in 1926, having joined the club shortly after moving to Corpus Christi from North Texas in 1913.   During her administration the club was active in   educational and musical contributions to the public schools,  cooperating   with the high school parent-teacher association of which Mrs. Tompkins was a member.

            Mrs. Tompkins became interested in the further education of high school graduates and through her efforts the Florence Westervelt Student Loan Fund was established.  This fund  was used to aid girls who needed assistance in   continuing their education.  In addition to club support, a gift of $1,500 was made by Mr. E.C. Westervelt.  Administering this fund, Mrs. Tompkins was able to give assistance to one hundred girls, also several boys, both in college and in business training.  This was Mrs. Tompkins’ hobby, and she devoted a great part of her time to the furtherance of this work.  She was the enthusiastic chairman for 15 years, with Mrs. Henry Redmond as co-chairman, under the sponsorship of the Monday Club.

            Mrs. Tompkins enjoyed the study of parliamentary law, being a recognized parliamentarian and a successful teacher of parliamentary usage.  She was parliamentarian of the Monday Club.

            The Fifth   District of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs held its convention in Corpus Christi in 1926, with the Monday Club taking   a prominent part in hostess activities.  Later Mrs. Tompkins was to serve the State Federation as vice president, and to become a life member of the State Board in 1937.  She was in this office when she passed away Nov.  18,  1941.
