Monday Club Anniversary Celebrated
More than 225 guests attended the
guest day tea of the Woman’s Monday Club celebrating the 52nd
anniversary of its founding. The tea was held at the Nueces Hotel.
Receiving the guests were Mrs.
French Smith, president; Mrs. L. L. Wagner, first vice president; Mrs. W. E.
Pope, second vice president; Mrs. John B. Hardwicke, recording secretary;
Mrs. H. H. Watson, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Boyd Brooks, treasurer; and
Mrs. Douglas Van Ness, parliamentarian.
Other members alternating in the
receiving line were Mrs. Vincent Bluntzer, Mrs. R. G. Terrill, Mrs. E. B.
Neiswanger, and Mrs. Maude Gerhardt.
Mrs. Kathryn Allen played the piano
during the tea.
The serving table was laid with a
lace cloth and centered with a Valentine arrangement of red carnations with
satin streamers. The table held a large cake in the shape of a double heart
and decorated with red confection flowers. The cake was placed on a mirror
reflector and encircled with a ruffle of red tulle. Serving the cake were
Mrs. Maude Gerhardt and Mrs. Charles Pugsley.
Alternating at the coffee and tea
service were Mrs. B. W. Klipstein, Mrs. R. R. Banner, Mrs. Hood Boone, Mrs.
H. H. Watson, and Mrs. Carrie Lichtenstein.
On the piano in the parlor a red
carnation heart arrangement in a silver bowl was flanked by silver
candelabra holding red tapers. An arrangement of red carnations and
gladioli held in a silver epurgne was also placed in the parlor.
Members or the committee in charge
of arrangements for the tea included Mrs. Ralph McCampbell, Mrs. Carrie
Lichtenstein, Mrs. Gordon Lewis, Mrs. H. H. Watson, and Mrs. C. W. Klipstein.
Assisting in the house party were
Mrs. B. B. Crowe, Mrs. Ralph McCampbell, and Mrs. Mai Frances Hunter.

Monday Club Has Music Program
Members of the Woman’s Monday Club
met at the home of Mrs. L. L. Wagner, 525 N. Tancahua Monday for a business
session and program presented by the hostess.
A slight revision in the
constitution and by-laws was approved, and Mrs. E. B. Neiswanger, club
counsellor, gave an account of the Americanization of a German girl. Mrs.
B. W. Klipstein and Mrs. H. H. Watson reported for the fine arts committee,
describing the current display at Centennial Museum. Mrs. Carrie
Lichtenstein reported for the courtesy committee.
Miss Sarah Caldwell was a special
guest of the club for the afternoon. Mrs. Robert McCampbell accepted
membership in the group.
Mrs. Wagner opened the program with
a discussion of Indian music, and the development of American music. She
presented Mrs. Ben Christian, who played two marimba solos, and Dr. Van
Chandler of Kingsville, who read several of his poetry selections from a
published book, and from a new collection of poems with local settings.
Miss Patricia Wentworth, a member of
the Corpus Christi Symphony, played two selections on the harp.
